When is Janmashtami celebrated in 2021?
Lord Sri Krishna was born at midnight on Ashtami tithi under the Rohini Nakshatra. The month of Lord Krishna’s birth is Shravan as per the Amanta calendar and Bhadrapad in the Purnimantha calendar. This corresponding to the August – September months on the English calendar and the exact date depending on the lunar cycle.

The story behind Sri Krishna Janmashtami:
According to Hindu mythology, Shri Krishna was the eighth child of Devaki and her husband Vasudeva. Vasudeva belonged to the Yadava clan of Mathura.
Devaki’s brother Kansa was the king of Mathura at that time. Kansa killed all children that were given birth by Devaki because to prevent himself from a prediction. That prediction said that Devaki’s eighth son would kill Kansa.

When Krishna was born, Vasudeva took baby Krishna to his friend Nanda’s house in Gokul, a district in Mathura. Thereafter, Lord Krishna grew up by Nanda and his wife Yashoda at Gokul. So, Krishna is also called Nanda Lala.
Rituals of Sri Krishna Janamashtami 2021
This holy day is celebrated in India and Nepal according to various kinds of local traditions and rituals.
Devotees across the country who celebrate Sri Krishna Jayanti keep fasts on this day until midnight. Lord Krishna was born at midnight. As a symbol of His birth, Krishna’s idol is kept in a small cradle. Devotees offer prayer. Bhajans and Bhagavad Gita recitals are done on this day.
Janmashtami Dahi Handi 2021 Date
We celebrate Janmashtami Dahi Dandi 2021 on Tuesday, 31 August (Bhadra 15, 2078 BS).
In many parts of a country, Dahi Handi is organized on local and regional scales. A human pyramid is formed to break an earthen pot filled with buttermilk on this day.
Devotees visit Krishna temples in the holy cities of Mathura and Vrindavan on this day.
Dwarkadhish temple is situated in the city of Dwarka, Gujrat. Krishna was the king of Dwarka. So, Lord Krishna is also known as Dwarkadhish.
This day is celebrated with pomp and glory in the Dwarkadhish temple of Gujrat.
